What's There: The People's Park is one of the finest examples of a Joseph Paxton Park and was donated to the people of Halifax in the 19th century by Sir Francis Crossley, a wealthy carpet manufacturer. There are visitor toilets; a Visitor centre; and, good wheelchair access throughout the park. |
Families:The People's Park has a children's play area, and hours can easily pass by whilst exploring the gardens to find statues, erns and artefacts installed in the gardens. The park also has site-based staff. |

Created in a derilict walled garden of Hudson House by a local community group, Reeth Community Orchard is open to the public. It has planted flower beds, a wildflower meadow and mown lawns. The Orchard is also used for training workshops, community events and other social occassions.

What's There: Rother Valley Country Park has plenty to provide an enthralling day out in it's own right. With cafes; toilets; angling; craft studios; a visitor centre; a shop; cycle hire; the watersports centre; an 18-hole golf course; football pitches; orienteering courses; and, a grass ski slope this park is teeming with life and energy. Wheelchair access is good on the many paths throughout the park, however, please note that access for the disabled is restricted within the historic mill buildings. |
Families: If the list of activities doesn't suit all tastes there is alos an outdoor childrens play area that costs £1 for the day per child. The park is dog friendly, and has site-based staff. |
How to get there: Car: Rother Valley Country Park is just 2 miles from junction 31 of the M1. Train: 1 mile from Kiverton Bridge train station which is on a direct line to Sheffield train station. Trams: The nearest tramstop to the park is Mosborough, leaving a 20 minute walk to the park. |

What's There: Rowntree Park was originally given as a gift to the people of York by Mssrs Rowntree & Co in 1921 as a memorial to the Rowntree staff that fought and fell in World War I. The Listed Gates on Terry Avenue were added in memory of those who fell in World War II. The park also has a cafe; visitor toilets; a sculpture trail to follow; tennis courts; a lake; and a skate park. There is good wheelchair access throughout the park. |

Sheffield Winter Gardens has the largest temperate glasshouse in a European city centre and it is home to more than 2,000 plants from all over the world. Built from wooden arches and glass, and beautifully landscaped, this is a peaceful and wonderfully exotic place right in the heart of the city. Well worth a visit.

The St Ives Estate is situated adjacent to Harden Moor between Bingley and Keighley, covering 551 acres. What's There: Temple Newsam is one of the great historic estates in England and is set within 1,500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland landscaped by Lancelot "Capability" Brown in the 18th century. How to get there: Car: Temple Newsam is 4 miles from the centre of Leeds off the A63, and approx 2 miles from junction 46 on the M1. Train: You can take a train from Leeds station to Crossgates and then it is just a short walk to the park. Bus: You can get to the park via the 15 and 20 to Holton, or the 18 and 18a to Whitkirk. |

What's There: Thornes Park was originally 3 individual parks: Thornes Park, Clarence Park and Holme Field Park. The park merged into a 100 acre large city park and is close to Wakefield city centre. The park includes a Cafeteria; a miniature railway; sports pitches; tennis courts; bowling greens; an 18-hole putting green; pitch and putt; an athletics stadium; and a gym. There are also good disabled facilites and access throughout the park. |

This 150-acre country park provides a peaceful have for both people and wildlife. Situated just four miles from Rotherham town centre, the park is built around a reservoir, originally constructed in 1880 to serve the neighbouring borough of Doncaster. Park activities include walking, birdwatching and fly-fishing, but the park also holds regular events including The Environment Fair, guided walks, expert talks, family fun days, kite making and art master classes. There is also a Camping and Caravaning Club registered campsite, a cafe, and a visitor centre with a gift shop and fishing supplies.

What's There: Valley Gardens is one of the best known parks in the North of England, and in 2004 Harrogate was awarded the Gold Medal in the Entente Florale competition. Refreshments are available at the games pavillion. There are tennis courts; a pitch and putt; crazy golf; and a boating pool. The gardens have good wheelchair access all round and disabled toilets. |
Families: To entertain amongst the beautiful settings of the garden there is a paddling pool and a children's play area. |
