Crosscliff is a parkland area that is surrounded by pine trees, which hide an ancient earthwork known as Dargate Dikes. The Crosscliff Viewpoint has an outstanding panorama of a landscape created by the ice age. Local legend states that a lonely hill off to the west of Crosscliff, called Blakey Topping, was created by a giant!

Glen Gardens, although small, is a multifunction recreational space that easily meets the needs of local people and visitors. The gardens have good quality bowling facilities, a children's play area, tennis and basketball courts, and with the design of the gardens you would hardly realise that you were surrounded by busy streets. The City of York runs its free environmental education programme from the gardens.

Set within approximately 137 acres of mature woodland and gardens surrounding a lake, Golden Acre Park has a large variety of trees and shrubs. In the area surrounding the lake local flora is actively encouraged. The lake itself is home to many different species of wildfowl. There is also the Blenheim Courtyard, the Display House, the Demonstration Garden, the Limestone Rock Garden and the Cherry Orchard to enjoy.

Haygate is a small park and picnic area on the brow of Pexton Hill overlooking Dalby Beck. There are fine views that are fantastic for a spot of birdwatching in the summer months, as well as a diverse plant life that attracts many different species of butterflies. The Pexton Moor Trail promotes the areas mixture of woodland, scrub and grassland.

| 12. Low and High Staindale |

The Staindales take their names from the Viking for "Stony Valley". This is probably a reference to the rocky nature of the terrain, with nearby ravines and the amazing jurassic rock formations of the Bridgestones and Adderstone. A small man-made lake has been created in the valley attracting plenty of Ducks and Geese to share your view with.

This is a small railway halt in the heart of Newtondale which gives access to a variety of forest and moorland walks. The combination of spectacular scenery and the sight and sound of steam locomotives makes this a park not to be missed. The only access to Newtondale Halt is via train.
