1. Adderstone Field

Laying next to the Forest Drive, Adderstone Field has beautiful open pine and beech woods on two sides. Very popular during the summer months, the site is also used for open-air events and concerts. This is also an excellent location for bat and ball games. There are toilets, a shop and a visitor centre also available.

2. Aireville Park  

Gargrave Road, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 1UD.

What's There: Aireville Park offers a Cafe; visitor toilets; a 14-hole pitch and putt course; a superb wheelpark for bmx bikes, skateboards and inline skates; multi-use games area offering football, tennis, netball and basketball; and, the Craven Swimming Pool. There is good disabled access throughout the majority of the park.

Families:There are several Children's play areas on-site, dog friendly, site-based staff.

How to get there: Car: Aireville Park is to the west of Skipton and is accessible from the A629 and A6069. Train: The park is only a short walk from Skipton train station.

3. Chevin Forest Park

Chevin Forest Park is a 700-acre forest, with many different types of woodland, which is home to a variety of wildlife and birds. Many visitors to the chevin enjoy walking, rock climbing, horse-riding and mountain biking. If you want a spectacular view of the Wharfe valley out over Otley this is the place to explore.

The park is dog friendly.

4. Clifton Park

What's There: At Clifton Park you will find a Cafe; visitor toilets; a bandstand; bowling greens; tennis courts; a skate park; and some guided walks. There is good access for wheelchair users.

Families:The park has a Children's playground; a fairground; a paddling pool, and crazy golf. The park is dog friendly, and has site-based staff.

How to get there:Train: The nearest train station is Rotherham Central. Bus: Numbers 11, 12, 14, and 15 from the city centre. Foot: The park is 5 minutes walk from the city centre and Rotherham Bus Station.

5. Crosscliff

Crosscliff is a parkland area that is surrounded by pine trees, which hide an ancient earthwork known as Dargate Dikes. The Crosscliff Viewpoint has an outstanding panorama of a landscape created by the ice age. Local legend states that a lonely hill off to the west of Crosscliff, called Blakey Topping, was created by a giant!

6. Ecclesall Woods

What's There: The woods have an active friends group, paths and bridleways, and an Easy Going Trail that is suitable for disabled and less able bodied access.

Families:This anient woodland has nature reserve status and makes it a great educational day out for all the family, dog friendly.

How to get there:Car: Accessible from the A621 and the A625. Train: Alight at Dore Station, 100 yards from the park. Bus: Catch 95 or 95a from Sheffield's High Street. Foot: One hour's walk from the city centre.

Can I park nearby : Free car parking is available off Limb Lane, Dore and Abbey Lane. Visitors can also park on Abbeydale Road South (A621) and Whirlowdale Road.

7. Glen Gardens

Glen Gardens, although small, is a multifunction recreational space that easily meets the needs of local people and visitors. The gardens have good quality bowling facilities, a children's play area, tennis and basketball courts, and with the design of the gardens you would hardly realise that you were surrounded by busy streets. The City of York runs its free environmental education programme from the gardens.

8. Golden Acre Park

Set within approximately 137 acres of mature woodland and gardens surrounding a lake, Golden Acre Park has a large variety of trees and shrubs. In the area surrounding the lake local flora is actively encouraged. The lake itself is home to many different species of wildfowl. There is also the Blenheim Courtyard, the Display House, the Demonstration Garden, the Limestone Rock Garden and the Cherry Orchard to enjoy.

9. Haygate

Haygate is a small park and picnic area on the brow of Pexton Hill overlooking Dalby Beck. There are fine views that are fantastic for a spot of birdwatching in the summer months, as well as a diverse plant life that attracts many different species of butterflies. The Pexton Moor Trail promotes the areas mixture of woodland, scrub and grassland.

10. Lister Park

What's There: Lister Park boosts a Cafe; visitor toilets; the Mughul Water Gardens; a fossil tree; a multi-game area; a boating lake; a maze; the botanical gardens; bowling greens; the museum/art gallery; and, an organized programme of events. There is disabled parking and wheelchair acces to rear of Cartwright Hall, access to all departments is via lift. There are also disabled toilets.

Families:Lister Park has a children's playground, is dog friendly, and has site-based staff.

How to get there:Car: Lister Park is approx. one and a half miles from Bradford city centre on the A650 (Manningham Lane). Bus: Numbers 23, 25, 26, 49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 622, 647, 662 and W5 from the city centre. Foot: 10 mins walk from Frizinghall Railway Station.

Can I park nearby : There is limited parking in Lister Park, accessible from North Park Road.

11. Locke Park

What's There: Locke Park has a Cafe; visitor toilets; and, the 70-foot tall Locke Tower, which is named in memory of the wife of Victorian railway entrepreneur Joseph Locke. There is good disabled access on-site.

Families:Locke Park has a children's playground, and is dog friendly.

How to get there: Car: The entrance is off Keresforth Hall Road. Train: 30 minutes walk from Barnsley train station. Bus: Number 44 from Barnsley bus station.

12. Low and High Staindale

The Staindales take their names from the Viking for "Stony Valley". This is probably a reference to the rocky nature of the terrain, with nearby ravines and the amazing jurassic rock formations of the Bridgestones and Adderstone. A small man-made lake has been created in the valley attracting plenty of Ducks and Geese to share your view with.

13. Newtondale Halt

This is a small railway halt in the heart of Newtondale which gives access to a variety of forest and moorland walks. The combination of spectacular scenery and the sight and sound of steam locomotives makes this a park not to be missed. The only access to Newtondale Halt is via train.

14. Norfolk Heritage Park

What's There: The Norfolk Heritage Park has a Cafe; restaurants; visitor toilets; football pitches; bowling greens; a tarmacked multi-use games area; a sports pavillion that is available for hire; an active friends group; toilets for disabled visitors and mobility scooter hire for use in the park. Disabled parking is available at the Guilford Avenue car park and there is full wheelchair access in the Centre in the Park, including a hearing induction loop in Community Hall and braille signs within the buildings.

Families: There is Youth Club, an under-8's playground; an adventure playground for the over-8's; a free family quiz trail from the Centre in the Park; a "Hunt for Bugs" trail, and a creche. The park is dog friendly, and has site-based staff.

How to get there: Train: The park is approx. 1 mile from Sheffield train station. Tram: The nearest supertram stop is Arbourthorne Road leaving a 5 minute walk to the park. Bus: The 7 bus will take you to the bus stop at the junction of Grange Road/Arbourthorne Road leaving a 5 minute walk to the park. Foot: The park is an easy walk from Sheffield train station.

Can I park nearby : The park has it's own car park from the Guildford Avenue entrance.

15. Peasholm Park

What's There: At Peasholm Park you will find a Cafe and a kiosk; Pedaloes and rowing boats; an 18-hole pitch and putt course, and a 12-hole putting green. There is a ramp and toilet facilities for the disabled.

Families: As well as the Pedaloes and rowing boats, 18-hole pitch and putt, and 12-hole putting green, there are beautiful gardens, mini waterfalls, wooden bridges, trickling streams and an abundance of wildlife.

How to get there: Car: Accessible from North Marine Road (B1364) and Columbus Ravine (A165). Train: 14 minutes from central Scarborough by train.

Can I park nearby : Available nearby at Northstead Upper and Lower car parks, or there is on-street parking (Disc Zone) in the area.
